Hybrid Art: Digital and Paper

I have been struggling with doing an altered book, which requires creating collages that are completely digital, and it has me sitting, staring at the computer a lot. Images like the one above are digital; I combined the picture of the woman which I made translucent and placed over the document. I can do single page collages. Stringing them together into a "story" or altering an existing one is just beyond me so far.

I was never clear until recently how much I am really wedded to creating a single collage of images. I am having to think differently about everything, but it is an interesting challenge. Sort of more like writing, using images to create a narrative. The good thing is that I always like it when I feel like something will be a "cinch" for me "because I've had so much experience" :-)and then find that I am clueless. I have become convinced that this is where learning lives.

I think your digital collage is great--the secret is to just keep doing them--maybe at first they won't seem connected but you never can tell how it will come out.
Thanks also for all the wonderful comments you made on my gallery pictures at Artella--I loved them

Hi Cheryl!

I just received my cards from the Artella Note Card Swap and each and every one is a masterpiece. I love the way you included a little note of the specifics of the elements you used to create. I was so inspired by your card that I checked out this website and found out that you wrote a book. I immediately went on a mission to find it even though it is out of print. One big chain didn't have any copies, and the other had a few second hand copies for sale. One of them was priced for over $85.00 (way out of my price range). However, I checked out eBay and they had exactly one used copy for a reasonable price. Since I didn't want to run the risk of losing it, I bought it outright and just skipped the bidding process. Thank you so much for the beautiful card. I will also be checking your blog(s) more frequently because I love the way you share your knowledge on how to design so many different artistic works.

This is so true!

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for the nice comments you left about my stitching over at my Artella gallery (Ari's Visions). Sorry it took me so long to respond. I took the Sumptuous Surfaces class at www.joggles.com. They had *so many* great classes! I just took a miniature art quilt class there, too. If you like threads and beads, they have a marvelous selection. (LOL...I sound like a salesperson, but I'm really just a big fan of their stuff.)

How did the altered book come out? Are you still in process?

This is very beautiful. I love how you worked with the opacity. I personally use Adobe Photoshop and have a great deal of fun with it. You should definitely pursue this more and more as you definitely have a good eye for it.

Cheryl - I see that you haven't "blogged" for awhile. I wanted to contact you because of just finding your book and to tell you what a difference it has made in my life. I don't know how to get in touch with you other than to leave a message here. Marge Clauser
